Making Pancakes with Cheese

When you’re looking to add a secret ingredient to your pancakes to take your recipe from good to great, consider adding cheese! Making a pancake with cheese may seem unorthodox and sounds like it would push the breakfast out of the sweet zone to create a more savory dish, but that’s not the case. In fact, they’ll still be a sweet addition to any breakfast table, but they will also have a more interesting and well-rounded taste.

Different cheeses add an extra layer of taste to your pancakes and no matter which cheese you choose to incorporate into your batter, you should always start small. Start by adding ¼ to ½ cup of cheese either in dollops, diced, or shredded if you’re going for lighter cheeses like sour cream, ricotta cheese, or mozzarella. If you choose a more flavored option for your pancake batter-like Parmesan or sharp cheddar, add a few tablespoons of grated or shredded cheese at a time and make a few tiny pancakes to taste-test your creation and discern whether or not you want to add more cheese to the finished product.

Creating a pancake with cheese can be a great way to try new flavor profiles. There’s a greater potential to mix in other flavors that complement the cheese of your choice to create a brand new type of pancake recipe you may not have thought to try before!
